125th Anniversary Celebrations06 October 2008Over the last few days we have been celebrating the 125th Anniversary of Sir William Smith starting the first Boys' Brigade Company in Glasgow on 4th October 1883.
On the evening of Thursday 2 October John Swinney MSP the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and an ex-member of the Battalion, hosted a parliamentary reception at the Scottish Parliament to mark the start of the celebratory events. Friday 3 October saw members of the Battalion Executive taking part in a short service at St Giles’ Cathedral after the mid day service, during which flowers were laid at the Founder's plaque in the Chapel of Youth.
Members of the Boys' Brigade from throughout the UK gathered in Glasgow Cathedral on Saturday 4 October at 2.30pm for a special service of thanksgiving. A number of representatives from the Battalion were present, with 16 Senior Boys forming the Guard of Honour for the various VIP’s present at this service. Sunday 5 October saw many Companies holding their own events to mark the 125th Anniversary.
